Private ADHD Titration

There is a national shortage of medications that treat ADHD symptoms. This is due both to manufacturing problems and an increased global demand.

Our service is private ADHD treatment instead of waiting for NHS funding via Right to Choose. Our assessment fees include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A highly experienced psychiatrist consultant will conduct a comprehensive assessment of your adhd titration meaning. This includes medical history and an assessment using the typical ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

After your evaluation, you will be informed whether medication may be beneficial for your situation. This will be discussed during your follow-up appointment (which could be in person, via video link or over the phone). Your doctor will explain the different options available for you to take medication and if you decide to start on medication we will offer to titrate the dose to maximize the benefits/side effects balance for you.

This process could take a few weeks. It involves adjusting your child's medication slowly until the right balance is achieved. It is not unusual to need to adjust three or four medications before determining the most effective one for your child's ADHD symptoms. It is essential that parents are involved in the titration adhd adults process and keep an eye out for their child's behavior so they can inform doctors if the medication is helping or causing adverse effects.

If you do not decide to return to NHS treatment the medication you take will be issued with an individual prescription that you'll need to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in your consultation fees). You'll be required to attend every six months to check your medication, which includes pulse and blood pressure readings. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

Once the assessment has been completed, you will be able to book appointment with the psychiatrist, as appropriate. The appointment is typically conducted by video conference using zoom. However, in certain cases, it may be possible to have an audio-only appointment to be conducted (again with an additional cost).

At this point, we will discuss any treatment options and decide on a custom-made ADHD medication titration plan. This will include a discussion and review of your medication dose and any side effects you might be experiencing. The titration sessions cost PS150 for face-to-face sessions and PS60 by video or phone consultation. The cost of medication is additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

The psychiatrist will ask questions about your family history and the effects of your ADHD symptoms on your life and any relationship problems or mental health issues that you might be experiencing. This is because ADHD is an inheritable condition, and it is essential to look into any family history that could suggest that you are at risk of developing the disorder.

It is crucial that you are honest and transparent to the doctor during this evaluation, as the information they get will be used to determine if your ADHD fits the diagnostic criteria. This is a crucial step in the process, as failing to do so could result in an inaccurate diagnosis and therefore inappropriate prescribing of medication.

If you decide to seek treatment for ADHD We'll set up an appointment to follow-up with a psychiatrist that is skilled in this area. If you'd like to begin treatment immediately it is possible to start treatment immediately following the diagnosis. You can also wait two weeks to consider the implications of the diagnosis and the options available to you.

We recommend that if you are unsure about your preferences, talk to your GP prior to booking your private assessment. Some providers have different policies on whether they require a GP letter. We also recommend to confirm that your GP accepts a "Shared Care Agreement', which means that once you are discharged from the clinic you will be sent back to them to get the medication prescription.

Medication

Medication is an integral part of the journey for many people looking for a private ADHD diagnosis. It isn't easy to obtain a prescription from a psychiatrist on the NHS. NHS waiting lists can be notoriously long, and GPs may be reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.

Requesting your GP to refer through Right to Choose is one way to avoid this (see psychiatry UK and ADHD 360). This means that you can select a provider that offers a private assessment and titration service. This can reduce your wait time by a significant amount and is more convenient if you're working and have a full schedule.

After you've been referred through this route the doctor you choose will examine you and decide whether or not you require to be monitored for a dose of medication. You will be asked to fill in forms that vary by provider but the most important ones are self-report forms and medical histories from childhood to adulthood. These forms will assist your doctor determine any issues that could suggest you should not take ADHD medications if they are prescribed.

If you are titrated, the medication will consist of a mixture of stimulants and non-stimulant drugs. These will be thoroughly assessed and monitored to determine the best combination for you. The titration procedure can be how long does adhd titration take and may require a number of additional appointments before you are stable.

Depending on the type of medication you are taking, follow-up appointments can be scheduled either monthly or quarterly. Your clinician will check whether you are safe with the medication, note any adverse reactions you've experienced and make any needed adjustments to ensure that you remain on a safe dose. You will be required to go to an annual health check-up and routine health examination which includes blood pressure, pulse, and weight measurements.

Some people may be satisfied with their medication, and don't have to discuss their titration process further. If, however, they require further discussions regarding their titration and treatment plans, it's possible that they will be referred back to the same private clinic that made their initial assessment. If this occurs, the titration consultation will be included in the consultation fees and they will receive their medication via a private prescription (see Consultation fees above). It could cost more than an NHS prescription as the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
