The Space Key is made from carbon fiber composite materials which Lamborghini shipped to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of research project. The physical element of Space Key

Its core is a piece composed of a high-tech carbon fibre composite material, which was shipped to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of a research project. Carbon fiber was 3D-printed for the base of each Space Key. Each Space Key is linked to an exclusive digital artwork by way of the QR code. Only five Space Keys were produced.

The digital artwork

After months of posts on social media hints at it, luxury automobile manufacturer Lamborghini has finally announced its first non-fungible token (NFT) project. The Space Key is a collection of five physical items that unlocks a unique digital artwork by an unknown artist. It was created in collaboration with NFT PRO(tm), the 'collector's piece' is limited to five units and will be auctioned off soon.

Each Space Key contains a block made of advanced carbon-fire composite material. It was shipped to the International Space Station as part of a 2019 research project. After returning to Earth it was made into a QR code that links it to the digital element of the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys features a different moment that takes place at different times as the Lamborghini Ultimae takes off towards the stars. Over 600 million pixels each of the five images that were taken by photographer Fabian Oefner.

Oefner employed an inflatable camera with lenses to capture the individual images, which were later assembled into the final photograph. The result is a picture that is completely out of the world. It captures the beauty of Earth and the futuristic, hyperrealistic look of a car key lamborghini rising away from the Earth. The Space Keys will be auctioned off in the near future, but the exact date and location of the event hasn't been revealed yet.

The auction

The auctions, which take place between February 1 through February 4, will last for 75 hours and 50 minutes - the same time it took Apollo 11 to leave Earth and enter the lunar orbit. By registering online, you can bid on the five NFTs. Each one will be auctioned by itself and the winner will be awarded a digital image created by the renowned photographer Fabian Oefner, which captures the five distinct moments the Space Key passed during its flight in space.
